Things To Do in Hull for Families This Summer Holiday

The summer holidays creep up fast, and keeping everyone entertained for six weeks is no small task. Hull is a brilliant place for a family break, with more going on than most people expect.

Here's what we'd point you towards if you're planning a visit this summer…

Hull's Free Museums

When it comes to free museums, Hull has plenty, and they're all within walking distance of each other (and of us here at Hideout).

The Streetlife Museum is a real crowd-pleaser for kids. It covers 200 years of transport history with vintage vehicles and plenty of hands-on stuff to keep younger visitors busy. The Hull and East Riding Museum takes you through two thousand years of local history. Ferens Art Gallery is one of the UK's finest, and it spans 700 years of art from painting and sculpture through to new media.

Worth noting as well: the Maritime Museum is due to reopen later in 2026 following a major transformation.

Get Out into East Yorkshire

When the kids need some fresh air and a change of scene, East Yorkshire has plenty of outdoor space on offer. Pearson Park and Pickering Park are both close to the city and easy for a relaxed afternoon out. The Humber Bridge Country Park has woodland trails with views across the water, which works well for families who want a walk without driving too far.

If you're happy to go a bit further, the Yorkshire Wolds are within easy reach. Rolling hills, quiet villages, and walking trails that suit all ages make it a perfect option for a full day out.

The Coast Is Closer Than You Think

Bridlington, Hornsea, Fraisthorpe, and Flamborough are all within easy driving distance of Hull, and summer is a lovely time to visit. Fraisthorpe Beach in particular is worth a mention for its wide open stretch of sand. It's also one of the most dog-friendly beaches you'll find in the north, so if the family dog is coming along for the trip, you won't have any issues there.

Hull's Old Town and The Deep

Hull's Old Town is always worth a wander as part of your summer holidays in Hull. The cobbled streets, Hull Minster, and the independent food spots around Trinity Market give you a decent few hours of exploring without needing to plan much in advance.

The Deep is unmissable if you haven't been. The underwater tunnels and interactive exhibits go down well with kids of all ages, and it's one of those places that tends to impress adults just as much as the children.

Humber Street Sesh Is Back This Summer

If you're visiting Hull in August, it's worth building your trip around this one. Humber Street Sesh returns to Hull Marina on Saturday 1st August 2026, and it's one of the best things to do in Hull for families who love live music. The award-winning festival puts over 100 artists across 10 stages, with a focus on regional emerging talent alongside some bigger names. It's a great day out and a showcase of what Hull's music and arts scene is all about. Wristbands are on sale now over at humberstreetsesh.co.uk.
