the ferens art gallery
Hideout Hotel is approx a 5 min walk to Ferens Art Gallery.
Opened in 1927, the award-winning gallery features an extensive array of both permanent collections and touring exhibitions. Located in the museum quarter, it is just a 5-minute walk from our boutique city centre hotel.
The gallery is home to a broad collection with important works by Canaletto, Helen Chadwick, Frans Hals, Henry Moore, and Stanley Spencer. Contemporary artists featured include Ian Breakwell, Nan Goldin, David Hockney, Craig Horsfield, Gavin Turk, Mark Wallinger and Gillian Wearing. With a regular programme of events, guided tours and changing exhibitions, there’s always something new to explore.
The annual Open Exhibition is currently being held at the gallery from February 2019 to the end of April 2019. It has been celebrating the works of local amateur and professional artists since 1967. You can expect to see diverse styles of work exploring mediums in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and textiles, most of which will be for sale
Following an extensive refurbishment, Ferens hosted the prestigious award “The Turner Prize” in 2017.
